Winners at the Brussels Beer Challenge 2021

Roeselare and Steenhuffel are celebrating winning two gold awards and one bronze award. Earlier this month, both breweries also won awards at the European Beer Star 2021 in Nuremberg, where the panel recognised Rodenbach Vintage with a gold award and Palm with a bronze. At the 2021 Brussels Beer Challenge, the honours went to Rodenbach Grand Cru (gold), Rodenbach Caractère Rouge (bronze) and Steenbrugge Dubbel Bruin (gold).

Over three days, a panel of 75 internationally renowned beer connoisseurs tasted and evaluated 1,800 beers from across the globe. The entries were subdivided into categories based on origin, type and style. At the end of the three tasting days, the best beers in each category received a gold, silver or bronze award.

Sven Stuer, General Manager Royal Swinkels Family Brewers Belgium:

"We're extremely proud that the Brussels Beer Challenge panel gave us three awards. That takes our total this month up to five awards – three at the Brussels Beer Challenge and two at the European Beer Star 2021. These international awards are great recognition for the work carried out by our brewing teams in Roeselare and Steenhuffel, our two breweries in Belgium, and are a reward for their daily pursuit of perfection. The awards are a symbol of the outstanding quality of our beers, and our customers certainly value such recognition."

Rodenbach is king

Brouwerij Rodenbach was first honoured at the 1894 World's Fair in Antwerp, receiving the Diplôme de Medaille D'Or. In 2019, the brewery passed the 100-award mark. "From now on, we can refer to it as 'probably the most awarded beer in the world'", said master brewer Rudi Ghequire in Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws. Today, the Wall of Fame in the Roeselare brewery is home to no fewer than 147 awards, true recognition for the brewery celebrating its 200th anniversary this year.
